CBD and High blood Pressure

The heart is the most important organ in our body. Our lifestyle, diet and often hereditary problems can affect our heart health. Finding new ways to look after your heart can invigorate and create a new active you.

High Blood Pressure, affects millions. According to the World Health Organisation, 4 out of 5 patients do not have theirs under control. It rarely has visible symptoms, often being undetected, but if it increases it can cause life-altering problems such as strokes and heart attacks.

Learn how slightly altering your lifestyle and including CBD into your routine, can have a profound effect and help you manage your High Blood Pressure.

What is High Blood Pressure?

According to the NHS, around one third of adults in the UK have high blood pressure and don’t know it. The only way to find out, is to have your blood pressure checked, this can either be done at a regular Doctor’s check up or by having a machine at home.

Blood Pressure, in the body is the force at which your heart pumps blood around your body. Measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg), high blood pressure is considered to be 140/90mmHg where ideal blood pressure is 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg.

A reading between 120/80mmHg and 140/90mmHg could mean you’re at risk of developing high blood pressure, meaning you should take steps to keep it under control.

If your blood pressure is too high it strains blood vessels, heart and other organs such as the brain and kidneys. This can increase your risk of;

  • Heart disease
  • Heart attack
  • Strokes
  • Heart failure

Altering your lifestyle and picking new ways to manage your high blood pressure could just save, and even prolong your life.

What is CBD?

The cannabis plant produces a resin that contains different substances. These substances are called cannabinoids. Cannabidiol or ‘CBD’ is a type of cannabinoid chemical found naturally in the cannabis plants. Most UK, CBD does not contain ‘THC’ that cause the ‘high’ feeling associated with marijuana, so is safe for new users.

Some research has shown the core substances in CBD interact with the body’s natural Endocannabinoid system, which contains the receptors for your brain, immune and pain responses.

The bodies receptors are tiny proteins attached to cells. The receptors receive chemical signals from different body stimuli, causing the cell to respond. This response creates anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

Can CBD help lower Blood Pressure?

The main effect CBD has on the body is creating homeostasis. ‘Homeostasis’ can be viewed as your bodies ‘happy middle’ or optimum space. The body contains a natural endocannabinoid system that contains receptors that are activated by CBD to help balance bodily functions such as appetite, mood, metabolism, pain, sleep and motor control.

A study conducted with human participants found CBD had reduced blood pressure levels caused by stress in the individuals. Acting differently from person to person, whilst CBD can increase heart rate, it can lower blood pressure in the same instance, creating a calming effect over the body.

Is CBD safe to use for High Blood Pressure?

In a 2017 report the World Health organisation described CBD as generally ‘well tolerated’, having good safety credentials and no side effects that would cause potentially harmful effects.

How to Choose a CBD product for High blood Pressure?

Often, first time users of CBD products claim it does not work for them. Either they have chosen a poorly labelled product or they are consuming it the wrong way for them.

The body takes time to feel the effects of CBD, which builds up in the body over time, so taken consistently over a period of 2-3 weeks, a new user should begin to feel the effects after this period, potentially then deciding to increase their dosage, in accordance with safety advice.

The answer is too choose well and do your research. At Hemprove we pride ourselves on knowing our suppliers and requiring all of them to fully disclose their production and testing processes, because your safety is our number one priority.
