A life of sports including long-distance running, badminton and soccer at university level for Trinity College and inter-county football for Louth took its toll on David Hughes’ body.
As he entered his thirties, pain forced him to retire. In the following years, he worked in Canada and the US in the medicinal cannabis industry as a Chief Marketing Officer, where he saw firsthand the benefits that the CBD can bring. He met people who used CBD to treat their illnesses and he spoke with professional athletes who were using CBD to help with their recovery.
Before working in the industry, he was slightly hesitant about CBD, but he soon saw how it could benefit people. While it was too late for CBD to save his sporting career, he knew that he could help other sportspeople prolong their careers, so he created Canndid, a high quality CBD brand.
David set up Canndid to create a range of products specifically made for those who lead active lifestyles and those interested in health and wellness. “I found the first lockdown particularly difficult, I worked from home, which I wasn’t used to and found it hard to find the right work/life balance. We got really busy during the pandemic and I decided to take CBD more regularly. It helped me focus and relax. It was a huge help to me personally.”
During his time in Canada and the US, David noticed that education was the key driver in changing people’s minds and garnering greater acceptance of CBD.
